Well, for all you know, you could be doing more harm than good for your chances of getting a job. If you use the wrong topics in your resume, you will be missing out on opportunities to land a job that is exactly what you're looking for. Many people who work with resumes keep telling them that they need to write a persuasive resume. However, if you don't get a chance to really put your thoughts down on paper before you submit your resume, you are likely to not get a chance to really improve it. You may be focusing on a good first impression and just never get around to writing your strong points. So what you need to do is find different topics to write about, and then go back over it again until you have it written in a way that makes it more appealing. When you're trying to come up with original persuasive essay topics, you want to try to think of questions. For example, if you are looking to start a career in sales, you might consider writing about sales tools or salesperson recruitment. Just think about the types of questions that you can ask your potential employers. Also consider how you can answer these questions to give yourself an edge over other candidates. Your resume is not just going to read like a sales letter; you need to write your resume with a sales angle to make it easier for potential employers to choose you over the competition. If you are an entrepreneur, you may want to look at writing about your own interests, and your business life. This might include the projects that you worked on or any stories about your business successes. This could be used to build a positive story about you that has some extra appeal to potential employers. If yo u are a social conservative, you may want to think about writing about your political positions. Some people who support traditional family values would like to see someone who does not like homosexuality. This could be an answer to the question about your views on homosexual issues. However, if you are trying to gain a new position that involves controversial issues, you may want to consider writing something on another topic. You can also find strong topics for your resume by thinking about people who you admire and want to know more about. Maybe you are thinking about someone who works as a motivational speaker, so you can use this as a topic to write about. You could write about how this person helped you, or what went on during one of his speeches that made you more aware of life's challenges.Another obvious question that you can answer is about your field of study. As a doctor, you could take a few minutes to research your field to make sure that you have an area where you have done your best work. If you want to be in medicine, you might write about your internship or experience while at medical school. If you think about some of the reasons that you might be interested in applying for a certain job, you can find some great ideas for your persuasive essay topics. Perhaps you are just tired of the same old job that you have been working at. Maybe you want to write about something that you are passionate about. Whatever you are looking for, think about your passions and your goals to turn them into strong points to make a very powerful resume.

Napster, The Internet, And Mp3s Essays - Metallica, File Sharing

Napster, The Internet, And Mp3s The Internet. It is a vast network of millions of users, surfing and sharing billions of files, all day, every day. This scares many copyright holders out of their minds. After all, there is virtually no one to protect these copyright holders from the misuse of their intellectual property certainly not the dinosaur that is our government. But, as Scott Sullivan, writer for The FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin stated, as history has proven, freedom and technological and societal advances usually come with a price. The price society is paying for the Internet is a loss of copyright protection by laws for their intellectual material. Take Napster for instance. It is a simple program created by a young college student named Shawn Fanning that enables users to anonymously swap and share audio files known as MP3s. When it first came into existence, it only had 3,000 or so users. However, according to Chris Sherman, writer for the magazine Online, says Napster has become the most successful new Web technology ever, gaining more than 25 million registered users in just over a year or existence. At the beginning of its life, Napster could probably have easily been protected by the Audio Home Recording Act, which gives consumers the right to create and transfer digital music for noncommercial purposes. (Sherman) At this point, however, the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) begs to differ. They believe the fact that millions of users can share songs with one another is an egregious violation of copyright and constitutes outright theft of intellectual property. (Sherman) They have won a lawsuit under this argument against Napster in early 2001, so the program may go offline unless a compromise is reached. Unfortunately, its a fairly simple job to shut down Napster permanently because of its centralized service. However file sharing, a mainstay of Web activity thats considered almost a right by many users, is too popular to stomp out in one fell swoop (Sherman) The technology under which Napster operates, File Transfer Protocol (FTP), has been in use since 1971. It would be as difficult to destroy this technology as it would music itself. But, thats what the RIAA insists on attempting to do. Instead of embracing and adapting FTP and MP3s, they mindlessly attempt to crush it, like they do to all new technology. Alex Torralbas, who has worked in the recording industry, states, in the 1980s they effectively killed the digital audio tape, and in the 70s, albums and tapes bore skull-and-crossbones stickers warning buyers against taping the music on cassettes. The MP3 is nothing new to the RIAA just another piece of technology to instinctively crush. The record industrys business model is pure Industrial Age; manufacturing and shipping pieces of plastic. MP3 and other forms of digital music threaten this model. (Torralbas) It doesnt matter that this technology would effectively allow RIAA to come into the Digital Age by letting users directly download music, bypassing the CD stage (for a small fee, of course). It doesnt matter that, if Napster does shut down, virtually millions of music fans will be wondering where they can download music. It doesnt matter that the majority of those same fans would be willing to pay money for downloadable music. Millions of people want easily accessible music, whether they pay for it or not, and if the RIAA doesnt realize that soon, no amount of lawsuits will prevent them from becoming extinct. The United States Supreme Court has made its ruling against Napster, but how will it hold up in reality, or more specifically, on the Internet? In some cases, the law is extremely inadequate protections, and the Internet is one such case. Simply put, the Internet is too expansive to be governed by conventional laws. The Web offers anonymity and a buffer from getting caught. (Sullivan) If a major crime has been committed, such as Vladimir Levins theft of $10 million dollars, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is competent enough to track down the criminal and put him or her behind bars. But what of the case of simple copyright violation? Is it really feasible to drag out some FBI agents to track down some high school child who

Heaneys careful Essay Example

Heaneys careful Essay Example Heaneys careful Essay Heaneys careful Essay The use of words here is effective as these words as the use of the word vacuum in the beginning of the third stanza and the use of the word calm to end the previous stanza calm the reader down from the preceding stanzas expressive instability. Heaney makes use of the words collapsed and hunting to make the heart seem as though it is something that has been searched for once before but has now perhaps been shot down thanks to some external force. The use of the letter h in hunting heart can also be heard as a rhythm similar to a heartbeat. This notion is further expanded with the word hawk, hanging and held in the before and after line 14. This effect is added to the rhythmic impression given by the rhyme scheme throughout the stanza. The rhythm scheme Heaney uses again puts emphasis on the vacillation of the couples feelings.  From lines 15 to 22, the reader is told that the couple:  Preserved classic decorum,  Deployed [their] talk with art  And this exemplifies the manner in which they act given their indecision. It is almost a skill or a game that has to be learnt, where talk needs to be strategically and promptly organized with art. The next few lines:  Our juvenilia  Had taught us both to wait,  Not to publish feeling  And regret it too late  reaffirm the fact insinuated by the title, Twice Shy, that the couple are being cautious to avoid repeating mistakes in the past. Even though this may be uncomfortable for the reader, the characters are deserving of sympathy as they both are thinking the same way. This is also ironic. It is charming for the couple to be working so collaboratively together in order to prevent their relationship from going wrong. Lines 23 to 28 are, indeed, more pleasant-sounding than the earlier stanzas and perhaps this is alluding to how thrilled the couple were at the beginning of their embankment walk but have come to calmly accept the fact that all they can and will do is share nervous childish talk. Heaney carefully chooses to use the old proverb, still waters running deep, to conclusively condense the couples patience and satisfied appearance, and the anxious, excited mood they are in as they walk. I found this poem to be very captivating thanks to Heaneys careful choice of words, use of similes and intended subject, that is, the feelings of adolescent affection. I think that this poem can relate to many people and not just teenagers, for it is a poem that does not take any particular perspective in terms of opinion or viewpoint. With the tranquillity in the first and last stanza, and the swift action and plentiful techniques to look out for in between, although a little short in my opinion, this poem was concise, relevant and an enjoyable read.

Inclusion and special educational needs (including challenging Essay

Inclusion and special educational needs (including challenging behaviour) - Essay Example This is better said than done, since in practice, there have been progressively increasing social diversities (DfES, 2001, 1-33). This poses a challenge on the practitioners as well as the state, since they are committed to provide an appropriate education for all. It is well known that factors such as ethnicity, disability and material deprivation are associated with inequality, social exclusion and the risk of low educational attainment, due to diversity of the condition and the candidates. By diversity, it is not only meant the different grades of disabilities or challenging behaviours in these people, it also reflects divergent cultural values and norms. To promote and enforce equal access to education, the current trend is to acknowledge the rights of inclusion of these people. Following lots of argument, now most agree inclusion describes a process where the pupil with special needs may be educated in an inclusive school build within the mainframe of the ordinary schools, in or der to gradually accept them in the mainstream (Croll and Moses, 2000, 1-12). The nature of provision for special educational needs has changed drastically over the last few years following the Warnock Report and the 1981 Education Act. Ideally, all education, special or ordinary should look at implementation of principles of social justice in education, as deployment of "what is good for the common interest where that is taken to include the good of each and good for all" (Griffiths, 1998, 95 in Quicke, 2007, 2-15). This implies improvement of education of all and specially of those with special needs. This should, therefore, follow certain principles guided by the code for practitioners (QCA/DfEE, 2001). In a broader sense, the inequality in education of those identified to have special education needs, can only be demolished by inclusion (DfES, 2001, 1-13) due the fact that all children, special or ordinary, have the rights to experience relationship

Martin Luther King Jr.s Letter from Birmingham Jail Essay Example for Free

Martin Luther King Jr.s Letter from Birmingham Jail Essay Martin Luther King Jr.s revealing, Letter from Birmingham Jail, delves into the segregation, injustice and violence of Birmingham, Alabama, probably the most thoroughly segregated city in the United States(Inquiry, p.#391, paragraph 6) In response to criticism from eight clergymen of Birmingham, King details the process of preparation for the nonviolent protest that took place in Birmingham. Imprisoned for protesting without a license, Dr. Kings words continue to reach far beyond the bars of his prison in his letter from Birmingham jail. Martin Luther King addresses the concerns and criticisms of his fellow clergymen, explaining why the African-American population of our nation cannot always be expected to wait for a more appropriate time to voice their concerns. Justice too long delayed is justice denied.(Inquiry, p. #393, paragraph 13) Dr. Kings wisdom is a well-known and well-cherished part of American history. Reading his words have cemented my admiration for his methods and his ideas. In Letter from Birmingham Jail he exposes the hypocrisy of the South and expresses his willingness to break an unjust law to pave the way for a just one. In case peacefully going to jail for his protests isnt a loud enough demonstration, his letter, specifically addressed to eight fellow clergymen but meant for the nation, gets the message across. Reading this letter has made me wonder how an eloquent, charismatic and just man such as Martin Luther King could be criticized, imprisoned and eventually assassinated. I question whoever cannot see the reason in Dr. Kings words. The issues of prejudice and segregation have been well worn since Martin Luther Kings time, but his words still hold passion and wisdom. His work on these issues was ground breaking, and I doubt our country would be as it is today if Dr. King had never spoken out in a time of injustice and inequality.

Rips Character and Symbolism in Washington Irvings Rip Van Winkle Ess

Rip's Character and Symbolism in Washington Irving's Rip Van Winkle "Rip Van Winkle" has been a well-known story told throughout time. There is not a doubt that as a child, many of you heard the words of Washington Irving's famous tale of the man who slept for twenty years. Nor can one forget the "elves" that Rip Van Winkle spent the night with in the amphitheater. Like many stories, Irving's "Rip Van Winkle" has been told so many times throughout American history that it has lost its original purpose. The story is now remembered for its fairy tale like quality and its appeal to the children and the young at heart. However, when given the chance to delve into the depths of what Irving was trying to portray, one may see the symbolism that played a hand in Irving's development of Rip's character throughout the tale. In writing this tale, Irving compares the character of Van Winkle and his wife to that of Great Britain and the Colonies. Rip Van Winkle was Irving's portrayal of the American colonies. Rip's character was described by Irving as a "simple, good-natured fellow; he was, moreover, a kind neighbor, and an obedient, hen-pecked husband." This description fit the ideal of what American colonist wanted to be. The colonist came over to the colonies to gain freedom from the crown of Great Britain, and in doing so, sought the life full of peaceful things. However, still being under the rule of Great Britain many of the colonists felt that they were still being pecked away by the hand of the crown. Although in a new country, they were expected to follow the rules and the ways of their countrymen over seas. However, by coming to the Colonies, these individuals as portrayed in Rip's character, although... ...ence a freedom that their parents only knew for the last part of their life. Irving does state that Rip had a flaw within the composition of his character. He defines Rip's character as easily distracted and averted from any sort of profitable labor. However, Irving does mention that it was not from want or perseverance. In other words, Great Britain would love to believe that because the colonists want to diverge from the rule of Great Britain that they are lazy and undisciplined. Unfortunately for the Great Britains this was not the case for the colonists. Since the American colonies were such a new entity profitable work was hard to come by. Therefore, many of the colonists found it beneficial to help others along he way. This unselfish attitude aided one's neighbor in getting one step closer to a goal of independence from the rule of the crown.
